Features of my online lessons
** Super Detail-Oriented **
In Lesson, I tend to break down technical and musical details into each ingle element that could potentially affect your playing as a whole. From deciphering a short phrase to explore the general musical style and its historical background, the lesson is filled beyond merely focusing on finger mechanisms (although that’s very important too). Besides, I will put down key point into your Lesson Notes which you will be able to keep it forever!
** Targeting different needs **
For students with diverse backgrounds, I will spend a lesson or two knowing your specific needs at the current state. Then I will provide a specific repertoire plan to target the weak spot and improve skills that is already within your comfort zone. There are always more to explore! With a comprehensive repertoire build, you will get to experience a diverse range of music writing and understanding the musical language as a “native speaker”.
** Learn Together, Explore Together, and Grow Together **
As a professional Concert Pianist, I am constantly learning new repertories to perform in public. I believe that the highest-level of teaching comes from the teacher’s daily practicing, performing and keep learning and researching, and I am expecting the student to do the same with me. We will learn together, explore together and grow together.
On top of everything mentioned above, you get to learn all of the content at home! Whenever and wherever you are. I am excited to meet you around the world!
What I am expecting from you
** Consistency **
I understand life can be busy with school, work and more. But learning an instrument is just like learning a language. In fact, one of my lesson goals is to help you “speak” music natively. I am expecting a consistent practicing schedule to cover contents from Lessons. If you have a busy schedule, you can adjust the amount of time put in to practice but something like completely not practicing for a week is not ideal for both you and me. Besides, my major requirement is to show up in lesson weekly. If you have sickness or other obligations, I will try to reschedule with you three times each semester. Otherwise, I am expecting to see you on a weekly basis.
** Positive Communication **
You must give yourself some time to adjust to my teaching style (which you will find out when we have the trial lesson) and give some thoughts on the content that we discussed. If you have any questions at all, feel free to contact me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I am expecting to have good communications with all of my students and I care about your concerns, questions and challenges.
** Patience **
There are times that you probably will feel like some assignments or projects that we are doing is a little difficult. And yes, that’s how you grow as a pianist. For some of you who are taking my lessons for competitions and performances, yes, you might fail on the stage even if we have already gone through everything that we need to talk about. Because musical performance is such a unique art that you can work for hours and hours off the stage just in hope to shine for playing a piece that last only five minutes. However, when you learn enough about the nature of performances, you will understand that in the end, frustration is the mother of success. Once you have had a memorable good performance, whether is in a formal competition, or just a family gathering, the feeling of achievement is hard to forget. In the meantime, keep being patient about yourself, and we will review performances together to find out what specifically is causing problems.
